Objectives
The aim of this course is to develop skills in planning and monitoring of a project, self-learning, teamwork, oral and written communication in the form of a thesis or a report on the work done.
Program
The unit will consist of an experimental work, carried out individually, or better, as teamwork. At the end of the semester the student has to write up an individual dissertation, which will be presented and discussed before a jury. Alternatively, if available, an internship can be done in a local company which will consist of a development / innovation project in chemistry under the supervision of a responsible of the company and a member staff of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. As in the previous case, the student has to write a report to be presented and discussed before a jury.
Teaching methods and learning activities
The work is essentially practical in nature and takes place in the laboratory under the tutorial guidance of a teacher.
Evaluation Type
Evaluation with final exam
Eligibility for exams
This course corresponds to 15 ECTS. The allocation of time and number of contact hours are previously agreed between the student and advisor. By the very nature of this course, follow-up work by the responsible person is continuous throughout the semester. Non-compliance with work program and the previously defined timetable leads to loss of frequency.
Calculation formula of final grade
The individual work written by the student (dissertation or internship report) is evaluated by a jury. On examination the student orally presents his work followed by a discussion period with the jury.
The final grade awarded by the jury takes into account the student's performance on the exam, and also the skills demonstrated throughout the work. In the case of the internship the jury may also consider as relevant to the assignment of classification the information provided by the responsible of the student at the company.
