1. Provide insight into the historical evolution and concepts of health and public health and its interaction with nutrition;
2. Provide expertise to understand the role of nutrition in public health services;
3. Providing skills and ability to intervene at the population level, identifying and pointing to solutions for solving public health nutrition problems.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical sessions using the lecture method, focusing on timely and active participation of students.

Practical sessions in which students are guided through a script and encouraged for activities intended to the collection of information, problem solving and teamwork.
According to the curriculum, this course comprises a total working time of 94.5 hours. 14h of theoretical sessions and 21h of practical sessions are originally planned. The remaining 59.5h are designated to the work inherent to the conclusion of the proposed activities so as to complement this training course.

Eligibility for exams

Participation in the practical sessions, namely the Continuous Assessment component, is considered essential for approval of all students and to conduct Final Exam.
Students whose status allows exemption of such participation should contact the teacher responsible for the discipline in the first two weeks of classes. In these cases, approval will be obtained by carrying out work that can be done outside the classroom, and that will be released and guided by the responsible teacher.

Calculation formula of final grade

30% Continuous Assessment (A) + 70% Final Exam (B):
(A) assesses the attendance, attitude, participation and problem solving ability demonstrated in practical classes. The minimum score that will enable the completion of the Final exam is 9.5 out of 20.
(B) consists of a written test with questions that focus on all the subjects taught. The minimum score that will enable the completion of the discipline is 9.5 out of 20.

Examinations or Special Assignments
