Luís Delgado MD, Ph.D., is a Full Professor of Immunology and Head, Laboratory of Immunology, Basic & Clinical Immunology Unit, Department of Pathology, Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade do Porto, where he is involved in pre-graduate teaching (Basic and Clinical Immunology to the Medical and Nutrition courses), post-graduate teaching (Laboratory immunology to Immunoallergology and Clinical Pathology residents), and research. The Immunology Lab also functions as a diagnostic laboratory in immunology at Hospital S.João, a large university hospital in Porto.

He is also a Medical Consultant in Immunology at the Clinical Pathology Department and an Allergy Specialist at Immunoallergology Service, Hospital S.João (CHSJoão), Porto, Portugal.

He graduated in Medicine in 1978 at Universidade do Porto, obtained a Ph.D. degree in Immunology in 1996, and, since 2003, has been a tenured professor of Immunology at  Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade do Porto. In 1991 he finished his medical specialty in Allergy at Hospital de S.João, Porto, and from 1999-2007 served as a member of the executive board of SPAIC, the Portuguese Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, and was President in 2014-16.

In 2000/02, he chaired the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) Interest Group on Allergy, Asthma & Sports. From 2003 to 2011, he was elected to the Executive Committee of the EAACI (member at large 2003/4; 3^rd vice-president 2005/6) and of the EAACI Board of Officers (vice-president education& specialty 2007/8, 2009/10). He is the recipient of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Charles Blackley Award 2015 for the promotion of the specialty and an EAACI honorary member.

He is an international Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and, between 2004/9, a member of the AAAA&I Sports Medicine Committee. In November 2016, he joined the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (JACI) Reviewer Board, the most-cited allergy/immunology scientific journal.

Since 2013, he has been an integrated researcher at Cintesis@Rise (Centro de Investigação em Tecnologias e Serviços de Saúde, FMUP) within the PaCeIT (Patient-Centered Innovation & Technologies) working group. His main research areas are occupational and interstitial lung diseases, ocular immunopathology, drug allergy/ severe cutaneous drug reactions, allergy and asthma in sports practice, exercise immunology, and urban environment and allergy.

He is a co-author of more than four hundred clinical and research papers (H-Index 41 WoS), with over 5,000 times cited.
