Food Consumption and Nutrition Sciences

Acronym: DCCAN
Description: The Consumer Sciences in Food and Nutrition it is a 3rd cycle post graduation aimed at professionals in the fields of Nutrition, Health Sciences, Life Sciences, Biologic Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry and Biotechnology.
The cycle of studies, a three years cycle, provides a total of 180 ECTS. It consists of a PhD course, that not awards a degree, which corresponds to 30 ECTS credits and of a scientific thesis, original, specially made for this purpose and based on research work, corresponding to 150 ECTS, and whose approval in a public examination will award the degree of Doctor of Consumer Sciences in Food and Nutrition.
The cycle of studies is accredited by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education.

Courses Units

Research Competences and Attitudes

DCCAN03 - ECTS The course provides students with the background and knowledge on basic steps of scientific research to enable them to:
- identify and evaluate a research topic and question,
- formulate and test the hypothesis to answer the question and iii) then protect and communicate the findings.
- Understand the multidisciplinary nature of the problems related to food consumption and nutrition;

Quantitative Methodologies in Consumption and Nutrition

DCCAN20 - ECTS This curricular unit aims to transmit competences to the students in order to enable them:
- To do a critical analyis of the statistical methodology used in scientific studies;
- To select the set of tools more adequate to the research they need to preform.

Research Project

DCCAN04 - ECTS

Identify an object of research, formulate hypotheses and set goals;

Question and argue the relevance of deepening an area in terms of research;

Know techniques and methods of scientific research;

To plan and refine a research project;
