1. To learn the cellular and sub-cellular mechanisms underlying the functional aspects oh the human body
2. To acquiring the knowledge of the different human organs and systems normal behaviour.
3. To acquire a basal level of knowledge to be used in various physiological fields and which could be applied to other disciplines and elsewhere in the course .

Skills and Learning Outcomes

1. Solving problems strategies
2. Promoting the critical thinking
3. Practice of evaluation of various organs and systems.

Program

THEORICAL SESSIONS AND SEMINARS: cell physiology; Nervous system; Muscle; Cardiovascular system; blood and haemostasis, endothelium; Respiratory system

THEORIC-PRACTICAL SESSIONS: cell membrane; muscle physiology; heart’s electric activity, heamodinamics; mechanisms of arterial pressure regulation, ventricular function curves; evaluation of haemostasis, Evaluation of lung mechanic.

Mandatory literature

Berne & Levy ; Physiology, 2008. ISBN: 978-0-323-04582-7

Teaching methods and learning activities

THEORICAL SESSIONS, SEMINARS and THEORICAL-PRACTICAL SESSIONS (tutorial)

Lectures and seminars 28 hours
Theorical-Practical sessions: 28 hours

Total of working hours: 56 hours

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Assessment Components

Description Type Time (hours) Weight (%) End date
Attendance (estimated) Participação presencial 56,00
Total: - 0,00

Eligibility for exams

Presence in 2/3 of the theorical-pratical sessions

Calculation formula of final grade

1. Theorical- Practical (P): Continuous assessment by the teaching staff during the theoretical-practical sessions. The practical mark weight is 25% of the final average (see formula). 2. Theoretical assessment (T): Accomplished in the form of a written test and representing 75% of the final average. The theoretical assessment test is constituted of 60 questions distributed into 2 groups (40 multiple choice questions; 20 true/false questions) The minimum mark in each term is 9.0.

FINAL MARK = P+ 0.8*T

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The working students will be graded in the theorical - pratical component by a written examination.

Classification improvement

In the theorical sessions a continuous evaluation in made though 3 small, unexpected, examinations. The mark obtained will be added to the final mark (0 - 1 points)
