Objectives

The objectives of the subject:
1 - to promote and consolidate the students' involvement in autonomous production projects, properly articulated with the techniques for casting by the process of sand and lost wax bronze casting, so as to promote the objective study of phenomena related with the practice of molding and casting in a professional environment (among fine art bronze foundry);
2 - seeing to it that these projects are properly coordinated with methodologies that promote the study of the phenomena related with the contemporary art practices;
3 - to encourage the pursuit of artistic practices, preferably on the basis of practical experience, the bronze casting process;
4 - to consolidate functions at the level of verbal and written statement. Accordingly, upon presentation of the proposition on the proposal of employment, and the answers to theoretical research to ask the teacher, those where the proposed intervention on various ongoing projects;
5 - to assess the gain of theoretical and practical skills consolidated by the students during the semester.

Program

The program of molding and bronze casting process, promotes an effective approach the exercise of the bronze casting using the lost wax method, a process remains unchanged, with production of prototype (model or original sculpture out of any number of media, including wax, clay, wood, stone), silicone molding, editing in wax casting, gating (with sprus) and poured. This is a course with a strong motivation theory and practice, and focused on the actual objective of the foundry.

Teaching methods and learning activities

1 - Attendance. Theoretical and practical monitoring by the teacher considering the work proposal submitted by the student;
2 - Given the nature of this course, and the little time available for achieving its objectives, it is necessary to fulfill carefully checked the times set for each stage of the process required in order to make the finalization of the project possible.

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Calculation formula of final grade

According to the student achievement. To calculate the final grade will be considered the attendance and the student's responsibility towards the tasks that the development of the project requires, as well as their relationship with the projects of his colleagues, the response to the tasks of a more theoretical bent, meeting deadlines and finally, the nature and competence in the production (s) of artifact(s).

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

As stipulated in the Regulation of the regime of Studies and Assessment of FBAUP, the evaluation of the theoretical-practice is continuous, subject to combination with other methods of assessment. Although, being the absences not recorded, the constant presence at school must ensure qualitative and quantitative information at any time, regardless of the time periods for evaluation. The reported information is ensured through the regular development of practical and its theoretical framework. Given the characteristics of the type of ongoing evaluation (distributed without final exam) are weighting factors for the assessment, the effective participation / attendance of the student in the spaces of workshop, performance and capacity, nature and originality of the project and subsequent reading processes and strategies of consummation.

Bibliography delivered in support analog (paper) to students.
The bibliography is adjusted to every project and will be set and delivered directly to the student. But not the broader waiver bibliography that by various means, we will bring to students.
