Objectives

 Moving Image is a curricular unit that develops and problematises videographic and film production in the context of artistic practice.
Through the implicit theoretical-practical link, the main aim of this unit is to deepen and experiment with technologies in the context of artistic projects, in the reflexive domain of the individual, collective and presentation production tools themselves.
The aim will be to follow and critically stimulate the different stages in the realisation of a project so that they are consequential in the results achieved, as well as enabling technical and conceptual autonomy concerning the media used.

Learning outcomes and competences

- Application of technical and conceptual skills in the field of audiovisual technologies in the context of contemporary artistic practices;

- Improvement of the different stages of realisation of a videographic / film project in the context of artistic practice;

- Mastery of the specific languages used in the context of contemporary artistic production, with a special focus on the moving image area;

- Prepare the presentation of a collective project as a space for the installation and reception of the moving image;

- Preparing a digital channel involved in the layout of a specific project and related to the contents realised and researched in the semester.

Program

Moving Image program will be developed between practical exercises connected with an ongoing collective project:

1. Narratives: Attending the collective questions and concerns of the students about video and film practices, will develop a double exercise that activates dialectic components inside image processing: Shot/Countershot/offscreen; horizontal structure/vert linear narratives/ non-linear narratives; Continuity and discontinuity in action, space, and time.

2. Synchronous: Development of practice contents and films taking into account the relations between the producing of images and the producing of sound. Experimental relations of synchrony and asynchronous, as well, as the effective materiality between the audio and the visual will be presented and tested: sync point and synchresis.

3. Transmissions (collective project): The last topic of the program will develop the presentation of the works inside a collective structure and thinking, considering the technological and material concerns and specificity of moving image space.

The program is referenced based on contemporary artistic practice, understanding and questioning the (ultra) presence of moving images in artistic practice today.

Comments from the literature

The above list is introductory and research-based. Each component of the programme will be based on a bibliography and specific reference practices.

A digital page is successively updated with the materials not only biographical but also artistic of obligatory appreciation.

Complementary materials will be appropriate to the development of the projects and mentioned in class.

Teaching methods and learning activities

- Intense and regular practice, providing the constant creation of new situations and problems.

- Presentation of proposals and exercises for the realisation of the project.

- Individualised monitoring of working projects and presentations of the evaluation stages.

- Theoretical-practical classes using audiovisual media, texts and others. Autonomous reading and discussion of the bibliography recommended for these classes.

- Reasoned analysis of the contemporary artistic context in the specific area of the moving image.

- Development of a shared digital editing platform that builds and presents the UC materials, but also the research.
