Objectives

It is intended that each student develops and acquires, throughout the semester, technical and authorial skills through the different inputs provided by guest authors, as well as the maturation of their critical and design discourse in the construction and positioning of artifacts illustrated in the contemporary context of illustration practice.

Students are encouraged to develop a daily notebook that testifies and archives the experiences developed both in the workshop format and in the sharing and exchange of experiences with professionals with recognition in the area.

The CU (curricular Unit) also has as its main objective the creation of networks in an insertion of students in the community of relevant authors, through the exploration of different areas and contexts of illustration through the individual vision coming from professionals of the field, invited to share with the students their design methodologies in illustration practice and market perspectives and possibilities in illustration.

Learning outcomes and competences

The main objectives of the CU focus on framing Illustration in its contemporary practice, based on the testimony of guests for workshops or lectures.

This proximity strategy with the representativeness of commercial and authorial practice will allow the student to develop a specialized path and respond to their specific needs in the development of their identity as an author.

The formation of a network of authors will contribute to a shared practice. Fulfillment of these objectives will be proven in the development of a logbook that will provide students with formal and conceptual tools for their own artistic practice.

Program

This CU curricular unit intends to emphasize the exchange of experience and knowlege between students and various professionals in the field of illustration. Throughout the semester, issues related to the practice of illustration in a professional context will be addressed. From the guests' point of view, the relations between the illustration work and the market will be worked through an inclusive vision of the different occurrences of illustration in the contemporary commercial, artistic and communicational panorama.

Complementarily, issues that are transversal to the practice of illustration will also be discussed, such as copyright or dissemination channels.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The classes of this CU will be theoretical and practical, articulating:

  • Lectures with theoretical and practical content;
  • Analysis of repertoires that include works representing the universe of Illustration, encompassing editorial projects with different positions in the national and international market;
  • Development of practical projects in workshop and masterclass;
  • Monitoring and individual and collective discussion of the results from the intervention of the invited authors and the teacher in continuous monitoring of the work developed;
  • Active participation by the student in the different actions planned for the UC will be encouraged.

The seminars are conceived as a space for contact and exchange of technical, conceptual and commercial repertoires between students and different guests. A methodology is adopted at curricular unit that favors the approach to the real world of illustration and its authors through a set of actions: workshop or masterclass, which contribute to the enrichment of students' knowledge and enhance their authorial work.

Implementation of classroom occupation strategies as a laboratory space where individual experimentation and investigation is encouraged and the results exposed in the context of the class;
