Objectives
This course aims to ensure the support and supervision of the students during the development of research, both in the written component, and in project component and their correlation. Thus, it ensures also a regularity and compliance with the various steps defined between student and advisor. On the other hand, a strong focus is intended in the practical component (referring to ongoing projects) taking greater advantage of the various disciplinary areas present through group discussions as well as articulation of knowledge from different areas.
Learning outcomes and competences
The program of this unit contains various working components that will drive the implementation of the project component that supports the final document of the Dissertation: Supporting and monitoring the various stages of work established between student and mentor ensuring the feasibility of the projects and the maturation of laboratory and studio research; Monitoring and discussion of project(s) underway and respective articulation with the theoretical component; Support and monitoring of ongoing projects (detail, timing and execution); Preparation for presentations and public discussion of the dissertation and the corresponding interventions and / or exhibitions.

Program
The Unit seeks to ensure a good execution of the work in progress and ensure close monitoring, not only from the faculty, but also from the joint discussions amongst students and between students and visiting scholars. Thus, it generates a culture of shared research in the final stages of preparation of the dissertation process, reinforces the learning required to the expository dimension of the research work and supports the set up of exhibitions and interventions in their different phases. On the other hand, due to the high relevance of the project component in the investigation, it also ensures the monitoring of their development and implementation, as well as respective discussion in a multidisciplinary environment, moreover stimulating the collaborative dimension of artistic practice.
The adopted methodologies intend to consolidate the three components essential at this stage of the investigation: The theoretical component (written document); the practical component (the project work); and the oral component (presentations and discussions of the dissertation).
The collective and individual monitoring of students and the definition of writing exercises have as their primary intention the fulfillment of the objectives of time management of the research but also the achievement of the objectives and tasks defined by the Supervisor.
The practical component (project) will also be accompanied along the open classes based on collective and multidisciplinary discussions so that the projects benefit from input from the various disciplines present. On the other hand, the sessions in the college workshops reinforce the implementation of the project component, encouraging the student to go beyond the designs and ideas and to confront materiality decisions, feasibility and production.
The sessions of collective presentations aim to consolidate and help synthesize all of this work. The student must be able to produce a synthesis of all the work done both visually and orally in sessions of collective presentations that may have guest lecturers.
At the same time, students will also be accompanied in the development and publishing of content for the final exhibition or interventions, in which, again, they should be able to synthesize, edit and produce content that represents their work, but also that will express the ability to work collectively.
