Objectives

To know the basic classical culture of Typography: its contextualized and diachronic history, methods and classifications in typography, specific nomenclature, techniques, and processes, uses and its application.

Knowing how to work with typography according to specific methods and purposes: knowing how to choose, to compose and to manipulate the text for various purposes and in various devices/media.

Acquire practical and theoretical skills for the use and argumentation of typography.

01. A history of Typography (from the antecedents - the writing - and from the typographic system of Gutenberg to the digital age).

02. Anatomy of the letter and specific nomenclature.Type, case, size, weight, x-height, ascender and descender, etc.

03. Typographical classification.

04. Technological and functional contexts linked to Typography.

05. Choice of typefaces according to technical/operational, formal/aesthetic and symbolic/semantic/historical criteria.
Typeface semantics.

06. Text layout (criteria for spacing, alignment, columns, and hierarchy).

07. Composition (grid systems, white space, text/image, text/media).

08. Invisible typography and expressive typography.

09. Typography, calligraphy and lettering.

10. Page layout fundamentals.
