Objectives

Grounded in the study of theory and history of painting, the essence of its principles, and the practical work of painting, it is intended that each student will develop organizational skills and initiative in the formulation of research projects .
In line with technological concerns, the chair of Atelier II - Painting, aims to fit a traditional model of the supposed teaching of Fine Arts with the requirements of the contemporary artistic situation. The chair of theoretical and practical features as strategy the scientific-pedagogical possibility of building autonomy, by way of a harmonious approach between thinking and doing, between the project and the process of critical reflection and the result. So is providing the tools necessary for understanding the territories of contemporary art practice.

Program

The programmatic contents in the chair of Atelier II - Painting, are based on the study and pictorial status of the organization, consistency and unpredictability of the unity of languages​​, the adequacy of quality and quantity in the sense of scale and support, management of space between chaos and order, and a matrix between reason and the accident. That includes, among other areas, a context of formulation of a research project that enables the development of knowledge with aesthetic and creative skills, thereby consolidating levels that are determined by the integrated development of languages ​​in the various fields of plastic representation, technology and workshop on the fundamentals basics to the practice, the sedimentation of theoretical and practical knowledge that could organize knowledge and discourse; in developing strategies of analysis and synthesis, in considering the speculative nature of research, the need for effective thinking and making art as an exercise of constant invention and rediscovery.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The unit of Atelier II - Painting, aims to promote the understanding of an epistemology for research into the painting, focusing on experimentation, research and knowledge production in order to confront the question with the intervention, the process the project, participation in the conviction.
The teaching methodology in Atelier II, by its very nature, is implicitly related to the ongoing theoretical and practice of thinking and doing in the studio workshop, one that privileges the process of teaching and student-centered learning, this so by adopting the principle of a direct teaching, with the presence, effective, all involved in education, teachers and students within a classroom as a space of pedagogical dynamics as a space for affirmation of individual and collective learning.

Calculation formula of final grade

The assessment will be continuous, but there will be two times of periodic evaluation being defined according to the timetable proposed by the Faculty.
The first evaluation is informative, and the final evaluation of binding. Both assessments are quantitative.

In the final evaluation, the following items will be accountable:
Attendance, participation and self-critical capacity - 10%
Exercises required - technical, creative, proposed resolution - 25%
Stock of Images - 5%
Proposal - 10%
Development and implementation of the proposal - 40%
Final Report - 10%

It is essential to the work of students being made in the Atelier at the Faculty during and outside the class period.

It is mandatory to comply with a minimum of 75% of classes.
The program will first with pictorial exercises obligatory for all students, serving as an assessment of technical and interpretative skills, and for the development of the student in the seeking to obtain theoretical and practical skills for the individual pictorial project.
Then the program will focus on developing students' individual proposals in its conceptual and practical, and progressive improvement.

Taking this course the theoretical and practical exercises will also rise to the assessment of knowledge in the painting and its application areas, through discussion and debate in specific contexts.
