Abstract (EN):
This report presents the preliminary findings of the Schools against Fake News for a Cooler Future
(SchoolFaN) project, which aims to combat the proliferation of climate change misinformation in Europe
by equipping secondary school educators with innovative tools and strategies. Herein are presented the
results from focus groups (FGs) conducted with teachers and teacher trainers in each country where
they provided insights into their experiences, challenges, and needs regarding climate education and
digital literacy. Qualitative analysis of FG data identified key themes related to curriculum gaps,
teachers' readiness, and the role of citizen science in promoting critical thinking and
engagement. Findings highlight the workload, the lack of time, resources and knowledge as the main
barriers to promoting critical thinking and implementing a project on fake news in the classroom. As
solutions, the participants pointed out the importance of working on a multidisciplinary and
collaborative approach inside the schools, aligned with curricular goals and offering the teachers
recognition. These results underscore the need for targeted professional development and
educational resources to support teachers in cultivating a climate-aware, digitally literate generation.
Recommendations for integrating these findings into school curricula and expanding support for
teachers are provided.
