The degree in Communication Design aims at training professionals of excellence in the diverse fields of contemporary communication design, through two complementary components: the practical, heavily associated with cultural and market realities, and the conceptual and investigative, which allow future designers to build their own spaces of authorship, development and criticism.
The main study areas of the program are:
These areas are presented in spaces of reflection and laboratorial practice, simultaneously investing in individualized learning contexts and teamwork models. The degree benefits from a group of modules articulated with outside entities, expressed as internships, training workshops or in opportunities of integration in professional environments. In the scope of mobility programs, the degree maintains a privileged relationship with some of the best European design schools, with more than forty partnerships.
The degree in communication design maintains a close relationship with the degree in visual arts. This guarantees a permanent widening of learning horizons and a fertile creative context, without compromising the specificity of design training.
Students of the communication design degree have been awarded several prizes in recent years, both in exhibitions and national and international competitions, many of which achieved in curricular settings. Many national and internationally based projects have received significant contributions of former students as well as from some of the degree’s teachers. FBAUP is proud to see the artistic and professional path of many of its graduate students ratified by the cultural and social contexts of the last thirty years.
Professional status: The communication design degree confers the capacity to develop professional work and team management in communication design, multimedia and digital media. It still provides access to teaching in design and visual culture, to design consultancy and curatorship.
Access to further studies: The degree provides access to 2nd and 3rd cycle programmes leading to the award of Master's and Doctorate degrees.
