Objectives

Contribute to a critical perspective and to the consolidation of the individual projects of each student, complementing the work developed at the studio (Project);

. Value experimental methodologies associated with studio’s work;

. Compare and discuss a different processes of thinking and doing;

. Stimulate cross-cutting with other subjects;

. Develop analytical tools, both individual and at group level;

. Stimulate a critical reflection on contemporary artistic practices.

. To look for contamination building bridges between the school and its exterior.

Learning outcomes and competences

Centered in the expectations and interests of each student, it is intended to create a space for discussion and reflection about the different modes of action and the various roles played by artists. Not being able to answer in a unique way to the plurality of procedural and methodological modalities of artistic practice, and not wanting, on the other hand, to occupy a space that belongs by nature to studio work (Project), the use of direct speech by artists or groups of artists is a programmatic choice that aims to provide the closest possible contact with the phenomenology of art making. This course will then be focused on the experience and interests of each student, all of which can then be multiplied (or divided) by the various experiences brought by each one of the guest artists, thus explaining that more than methodology we are talking about the many methodologies that characterize the experimental condition of practice in fine arts.

Program

The course of Project Methodology fills a space that lies between the studio work and the type of discussion proper to academic seminars.

The search for a direct relation between students and guest artists or the use of other documents such as taped material, will promote discussion on processes and multiple methodologies of work. The course will be organized around the interests and areas of study of each class through seminars with guest artists, where we will discuss the processes and methodologies used by each author in his/her own work. When direct confrontation with the artists does not become possible, the research will rely on documents in the first person, such as interviews, videos, texts or works. Visits are also planned (studios, exhibition spaces or others associated with the artistic practice) always to discuss and explain the different ways used by artists to organize and develop their work.

Eligibility for exams

Evaluation without final exam:

  • Each student will have to make an individual research work, according to the methodologies and guidelines identified in class. Students should justify the choices of procedural methods in the relation between the chosen authors and their personal interests. The scope and nature of these works are subject to prior approval by the professor of each one of the classes.

• The calculation of the final evaluation will take into account the participation / attendance (20%) and the research work done by the student (80%).
