Objectives

The purpose of this curricular unit is to develop the mastery of the specific languages used in the context of contemporary artistic production. In particular, to improve technical skills and competences within different visual, sound and performance technologies; to develop a reflexive and critical and self-critical analysis; to provide students with the notions and practices necessary for their autonomy and capacity of aesthetic decision; familiarize with principles of both practical and theoretical research; and to personalize the "artistic" learning and practice of students under conditions of interaction (teacher/student);

Learning outcomes and competences

As a result of the learning process, based on projects developed throughout the year, students are expected to acquire skills in the field of plastic arts - multimedia, knowledge integration, project management and content production. Empowering them to a growing autonomy and technological specialization in an artistic context presented as multimedial.

Program

Framework: Given the nuclear nature of the curricular unit, this one will be established as a place of privileged experimentation where in addition to the development of technical tools leading to a desired plastic result, the theoretical knowledge acquired by students will be tested in curricular units that are external to it, with the purpose of transposing these contents to their singular concerns of plastic order. The existence of a strong articulation with the other curricular units is, therefore, necessary to a good performance in the scope of the plastic experimentation that is requested here. Given the initial nature of the curricular unit, it will have to be structured in a dualistic perspective, that is, to try to achieve a necessary balance between the practice of work proposals, not forgetting a strong investment in the various skills required in the conceptualization of projects as well as of its operative component, and an incentive to an autonomous response. The open nature of this curricular unit, that proposes itself as nuclear, also encourages a responsibilization at the level of interaction with the context in which it is sought to be integrated: the contemporary artistic practices, thought in terms of the problems of territorial extension and transdisciplinarity.

Contents: Both through proposals that structure the work to be developed during the academic year in a more autonomous way, as well as in practical collaborative exercises with a more defined technological component, the following contents will be addressed: The technical image and its optical devices, the construction of a historical and experimental perspective; The illusionist condition of kinematic experience; Moving image vs. the still image; Expanded cinema and cybernetic utopia; Live-Cinema; The contemporary narrative possibilities of image and its modes of fiction; The interaction between sound and image; The installed work, image spatialization, immersive experience and hypermediality; The archival practices of audiovisual objects; The "expanded field" of contemporary artistic practices.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Discussion with the teacher; comments and comparisons between works; lectures and classes on specific subjects raised by the progress of a work, or works; artistic and officinal practice.

- The work of the students takes place during classes and in the presence of the teacher, but also outside these hours.

- Assiduity and workshop work are also factors to be considered for the continuous evaluation process, informally expressed in the teachers' comments throughout the year.

- The students will have to respond to proposals provided by the teacher and that will follow the schedules previously defined and agreed upon.

- The participation in class should be regular and determined by the work process to be developed and in compliance with the work plan.

- Under the respective work plan, students will produce 6 definitive works in response to the proposals and submit them to the final evaluation.

- Any proposal must be considered in the light of its technical feasibility.
