Objectives

Understand the structural and strategic universe of the creative work and communication. The construction of process repertoires and mapping paradigmatic cases of visual communication.

Realize the need for design methodologies application.

Interconnect different methodologies.

Testing new models and structures of creativity individually or in team.

Learning outcomes and competences

During the semester a single project, aggregator of the objectives and program of Metodologias de Projeto will be developed. The project involves the development in different methodological steps addressed in class and them into practice in a real context. For this purpose it was made a partnership with Casa do Infante and Banco dos Materiais, where the students used the graphic, cultural and human heritage of each collections to  produce a series of works that explore one of the seven Porto´s parishes.

Throughout the semester will be stimulated the research of various graphic design methodologies.

It is intended that the students at the end of the semester should be autonomous in building a methodological system that responds to the challenges posed on the semester project semester. This should be achieved through the preparation of a report and graphic artifacts attesting the individual project methodology used for a real visual communication problem - New imagery solutions for the territory of Bonfim´s parish.

Program

Project methodologies will converge curricular repertoires and extra-curricular activities in structuring processes to support the creative act. The students are assumed as structuring agents and the body of creative practice. A forum for discussion and monitoring of its different issues involved. Thus, Project methodologies will articulates the following vectors:

1. Explanations of principles and strategies of graphic design projects.

2. Application of these principles to the projectual practices of students

3. Analysis of these concrete projectual practices.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The Methodology will be developed in three mains vectors:

1. Lectures

2. Collective project

3. Discussion forum for the different steps of the semester project

In response to the above, there will be exposed lectures about different approaches to project methodologies in communication design. For the application of methodological research model in to a real context there will be various guided visits to Casa do Infante and Banco dos Materiais, divided into major themes: Terroir and Heritage. At this vistits there will be specific field work made within Bonfim´s parish territory.

The project will be presented, argued and discussed collectively from the proposed results and the methodology applied to the class and later archived on a future plataform that will bring together all students graphic proposals for the parishes and city of Porto.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Assessment Components

Designation Weight (%)
Participação presencial 50,00
Trabalho de campo 10,00
Trabalho escrito 40,00
Total: 100,00

Calculation formula of final grade

The evaluation process is ongoing and will result from the sum of practical and theoretical experiences demonstrated by students during the semester. There will be a group project of two students each that will be evaluated three times in the semester, culminating with the final presentation of a report containing methodology and research. It will be used the methods of evaluation provided by the RREA of FBAUP following this parameters (described in summary form): Attendance, Participation, Creativity, Research and Responses to the objectives.
