Objectives

Práticas do Vídeo I it´s an introductory course about video production in the context of artistic practice. The main three proposals are presented as theorical classes, that organize the visual, technological contents and the concepts required for development exercises as well. For each proposal will be given bibliography and filmography specific notes, that conduct the practical exercise, the methodological process and the technological learning process and experiments. As a group or as an individual response, each proposal development have to be discuss with the tutor, before the final presentation. We’ll encourage critical and autonomous reflexion.

Learning outcomes and competences

Learning distinct steps for video performance and production (production, editing, installation). Learning audiovisual technologies in the context of artistic practice. Be able to use specific language and tools. Apply technical and conceptual contents to proposal scope. Laboratory of critical and autonomous reflexion, always linked with the practical experience.

Práticas do Vídeo I course will be expanded into main three proposals, that subscribes the learning process in three conceptual and technological blocs.

I. Film without editing. Topics: What is a movie camera? How does it work? What could we do with such an technical objects? The “plan-séquence". Camera movements and framing. Record interior/exterior, still/motion relation. The camera mutations in contemporary artistic practices.

II Editing. Topics:  Technological components and editing. Introduction to montage. Audio in film editing. Editing as perception and as a reflexive operation. Feed-back and loop as concepts of film editing.

III Video and Space. Topics: Install video project. The space in video. Video on space.  Video materiality.  Video object in artistic practice.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The main three proposals will be presented as theorical classes. These presentations assemble the nerves centers of the program topics and of the proposals, including the bibliographic and filmographic specific contents. For each proposal will be also showed the items for the technological practice. We expect a regular and intensive practice that convert the classroom in to an laboratory.

Eligibility for exams

Three pratical proposals. Each proposal development have to be discuss with the tutor, before the final presentation.
Portfolio will be required: visual records and other research notes relevant for each proposal. A reflexive text (700 words max.) is required, about the lecture that present each proposal.
