Objectives

Know and test the practice of Printmaking with emphasis on technology-based learning.

Identify the technological possibilities in the sense of autonomy and possible cooperation in the areas of nuclear training.

Develop a solid learning of methods that attend the officinal production, in a responsibility about the use of a collective work space.

Explore the plastic languages ​​of each technique.

Apply knowledge and increasing expertise to develop projects that allow discussion of self-editing. Promote and consolidate processes started on the first level investigating and testing ideas and principles, formats and methods, redefining themselves through their practice and especially expanding the instrumental possibilities.

Learning outcomes and competences

Ability to work in a workshop of Printmaking;

Involvement with the practice of Printmaking towards experimental and officinal way;

Acquisition of technical skills appropriate to the production of original graphic work;

Ability to deal with complex technological information in a clear, proportionate and critical way, especially with regard to matters relating to the support, preparation and maquette the object graph.

Introduction to fundamental techniques of Printmaking from demonstrations and subsequent experimentation based assays natured individual or collective.

 

The theoretical and practical presentations proceed to an identification of technological components (brackets, means, methods, practices) with the identification of the most appropriate and possible variants for different printing processes.

 

Seminars on defining lines of research topics and techniques most suitable for each research project. Technical procedures possible in current contexts workshop.

 

Presentation of prints from the files of the Engraving FBAUP repertoires and information relating to activities in the workshops, including meeting the print book artist and Pure Print - classical printmaking in contemporary art.

 

The understanding of the artistic possibilities of application and further provides the accommodating visiting researchers, integrated within the classroom, with the provenance of the International Meeting Printmaking PURE PRINT or other invitations.

 

Presentation and practical demonstrations based on arrays of editorial projects underway, as well as research projects taking place in the area. Evaluation of various hypotheses techniques tested there; possible variations to apply; innovation areas or reproducing traditional practices of great technical clearance.

 

Scheduled demonstrations to provide new formulations and offer, in a supported manner, the testing of various processes of engraving on metal in accordance with the resources available in the workshops.

All subsequent demonstrations will be scheduled and oriented extension of laboratory expertise, looking also, to foster an environment of sharing as well as different degrees of experimentation and implementation, under collective or individual tutorial.

Phased evaluation and critical work.

 

Submission of portfolio for evaluation accompanied of report. Presentation made based on assembly work and oral presentation on the same.

Identification of means and supports of production relative to traditional contexts:

Inks, inking and cleaning;

Papers and supports;

Printing presses and other printing equipment;

Printing procedures (stages).

 

Technical introduction:

Specific techniques of engraving on plate applied to the original graphic work;

Attack techniques - direct and indirect;

Subtractive and additive techniques;

Printing small format and large format essay;

Technical of single and multiple arrays;

Photomechanical techniques:

Introduction to photoengraving;

Shutters silk screened;

Emulsions direct application;

Decals;

Photopolymer plates.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Theoretical and practical lessons to present and analyze technological procedures. Officinal demonstrations on various processes of creating printed image. Presentation, discussion and implementation of an individual research project which aims self-publishing, and where are applied and verified, the learning about the technical procedures best suited to the production of discourses graphics.

Tutorials actions and critical guidance, collective and individual, to different types of research produced.

Individual presentation, report and documentation about the developed project.

The evaluation focuses on the observation of the performance of each student in relation to goals of the program and the result proposed exercises, taking into account:

Project with individually themed, accompanied by appropriate documentary record. Experimental studies held in parallel with compulsory completion of 8 works edited small and large format (edition of 5 copies).

Still are considered the following parameters:

Attendance and monitoring to all organized demonstrations.

Ability to work and monetize the officinal space available.

Involvement with the practice of Printmaking in experimental and officinal way.

Acquisition of technical skills appropriate to the production of original graphic work.

Originality and quality of the proofs produced.

Capacity of contextualization and positioning the graphic production in own work while contemporary art practice.
