Sofia Ponte is a Guest Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP), where she teaches contemporary art theory and related fields since 2010. She holds a PhD in Art and Design, with the thesis Transforming Functional Art into a Museum Object (2016), supervision by Professor Lúcia Almeida Matos. She completed her Science Master Program in Visual Studies at the School of Architecture and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with the project Daydreaming Devices (2008), supervision by curator Ute Meta Bauer and artist Antoni Muntadas. She graduated in Fine Arts - Sculpture at the University of Porto in 2001. She has been collaborating regularly with several museums of art of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Serralves Foundation and MIT - List Visual Arts Center. Co-founder and member of the collective Unstable Media, with whom she curated the group exhibitions Do it Yourself - Art by Instruction (2016) and The Scattered Book (2017). Ponte has several essays published in books and journals dedicated to contemporary art. She is a Research Member of the Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture ( ID+) of the University of Porto.
