Post-Doctorate in Typefounding (2023) and PhD in Typography (Design) with a European Doctorate Mention from the Universitat de Barcelona (2003). Degree in Communication Design/Graphic Art from Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (1989). He has carried out artistic and professional activities since 1983, with emphasis on graphic design, editorial design, visual identity, and typography. In Porto, he founded the Antero Ferreira Design studio (1991) and the Alquimia da Cor school-company (1995). Professor at the Department of Design at Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (since 1989), where he is Assistant Professor. Academic Coordinator of the Office for In-service Training at Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (since 2021). Integrated member of the Research Institute for Design, Media and Culture (ID+), where he is the coordinator of the research group Typographic Research Network (NIT). Visiting Professor, assessor, speaker and consultant member in various institutions, such as: A3ES/Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (Lisbon), Birmingham Institute of Art & Design/Birmingham City University (England), Escola Superior de Artes e Design (Matosinhos), IADE/IPAM of the Creative University (Lisbon/Porto), Nova Scotia College of Art & Design (Canada), Universidade do Algarve, Universidade de Aveiro, Universitat de Barcelona, Universidade Católica Portuguesa (School of Arts), Universidade Fernando Pessoa (Porto), Universidade de Lisboa, Universidade do Minho, Universitat Politècnica de València, Universitat Ramon Llull (Barcelona), Adobe Systems (USA), ICoD/International Council of Design (Canada), Typography Meeting (Portugal) and Indigo Design Award (the Netherlands). He has collaborated as an expert and assessor in cases related to professional activity and training, copyright, ethics and deontology (ANQ, DGERT, IEFP, Erasmus+, Ministry of Justice and the Portuguese Criminal Investigation Department), and in Professional Specialist Qualification exams in various Polytechnic Institutes (Bragança, Cávado and Ave, Coimbra, Leiria, Maia, Portalegre and Porto), in Portugal. He was president of the Technical and Deontological Council of the AND/National Association of Designers (2005-2012). Member and scientific consultant for various national and foreign institutions and journals in the areas of Design and Typography.
