Identify and understand the historical process of formation and consolidation of physical Porto, between times of founding and refounding urban, integrated into the national and international context.
Develop a methodology for explaining historical confronting the different urban units within the city, between the "learn to see" and "know understanding", which constitute as historical and architectural narrative confrontation in the city of Porto and other European cities (exploiting origins of Erasmus students).
Draw a comprehensive and methodical approach to recognize the historical time of formation of the city, which will uncover the materialization of urban designs and capabilities of design and construction of the city.
Develop a procedure for balancing design and urban form for the recognition the historical times between city of Porto and other cities in europe.
I. Urban Portugal - territory and city: factors origin and development factors; phases and types of urban settlement.
II. The Port - origin and urban development:
- Territory and city: the Middle Ages to the eighteenth century.
- City and architecture: structural interventions and continuities between the sixteenth and nineteenth century.
- Structure and urban image: the Baroque profile and illustrated traced.
- Urban renewal and extension of the city: the initiatives of the liberal bourgeoisie and the new infrastructure.
- Memory and urban refoundation: industry and economic housing versus monumentalization and renovation of the center.
- Memory and urban development: urban planning and urban regeneration to the present day.
Courses articulated with visits exposure to urban and architectural units city of contents of the program sessions. A string of hits that corresponds to each line of the program is planned. During these visits it explores the method to identify, understand, explain and compare this with other urban units that are familiar to students, thus providing the basis for an individual written report which will be evaluated and ranked element. This report will be explained in class, discussed, and their classification, in the time of writing and exhibition, will be counted at 100% scale of 0 to 20.

The student attends with attendance of 75% of theorectical-pratical classes and with the classification of 9,5 values in the invidual final evaluation exercise.
It is prerequisite Course attendance of at least 75% attendance of practical classes.
The final score of the classification results of individual written report, presented and discussed, in the range 0-20.
