Reflection on the methodological and instrumental affinities between architectural design and research, with a special focus on ‘representation’ as:
* matter - potential object of study - of both actions,
* process - method of work and development - common and analogous,
* communication - privileged instrument and means of transmission,
considering that representation is a differentiating tool, in architectural research methodologies, relatively to other areas of knowledge, and its exercise can be seen as an element of school identity.
Identification and experimentation of representation as a privileged means of recognition, description, interpretation, enunciation, proposition, confirmation, definition and communication of actions in research and architectural design.
Critically assess the relationship between the forms of architecture and the underlying values and premises. Develop the ability to, through representation, enunciate and characterize the timeless, current and emerging problems to which the project must answer and, in reverse order, depart from representations (in a broad sense, which integrates from the drawing, the model or even the building) to decipher the themes and intent that they tried to express in their time and circumstances.

Program´s exposure, contents and concepts, by the teacher, with support references, examples and commented bibliography.
Presentation and debate, with guests, on experiences of using representation as a central instrument of research in architecture.
Development of individual work*, throughout the semester, which will be presented, debated and reviewed.
* One of 3 hypotheses
1 — representation of the circumstance, problem, premises and / or principle of the project
2 — use representation in an action of systematization and / or interpretation of information and / or enunciation of the thesis under investigation
3 — essay on the values, themes and arguments expressed in one or at the intersection of several architectural representations of another author (s).
