Objectives

Reflection on the methodological and instrumental affinities between architectural design and research, with a special focus on ‘representation’ as:
* matter - potential object of study - of both actions,
* process - method of work and development - common and analogous,
* communication - privileged instrument and means of transmission,

considering that representation is a differentiating tool, in architectural research methodologies, relatively to other areas of knowledge, and its exercise can be seen as an element of school identity.

Learning outcomes and competences

Identification and experimentation of representation as a privileged means of recognition, description, interpretation, enunciation, proposition, confirmation, definition and communication of actions in research and architectural design.

Critically assess the relationship between the forms of architecture and the underlying values and premises. Develop the ability to, through representation, enunciate and characterize the timeless, current and emerging problems to which the project must answer and, in reverse order, depart from representations (in a broad sense, which integrates from the drawing, the model or even the building) to decipher the themes and intent that they tried to express in their time and circumstances.
