Objectives

It is intended that students acquire a wide range of concepts and fundamentals of work related to landscape architecture and outside space, either on a project perspective, describing the actions of man over the territory, whether on a prospective perspective that relates project actions to the changes in functioning of landscapes and the ecossystems in which they operate.

We also intend to debate contemporary issues of design and sustainability of urban space as well as the project critic.

Learning outcomes and competences

Students should acquire knowledge in landscape fundaments and concepts, understanding the intervention in outside space based on a systemic ecological approach and the interpretation of the landscape.

Working method

Presencial

Program

a) Fundamentals of project in outside space and Analysis and Interpretation of Landscape:

b) Terrain Modeling (Contours, landfill excavation, hypsometry, Slopes, Ridges and watercourses, Solar Aspect)

c) Vegetation - functions and design

d) Water in outside space and SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems)

e) Ecosystem Services (value of the ecosystems)

f) Developing concept plans with vegetation

g) Contemporary Issues of Landscape Architecture

h) Evaluation

Mandatory literature

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lectures and supervision of student work (individual work).

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation without final exam

Assessment Components

designation Weight (%)
Teste 50,00
Trabalho laboratorial 50,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

designation Time (hours)
Frequência das aulas 80,00
Trabalho de investigação 20,00
Total: 100,00

Eligibility for exams

A grade average of 10 out of 20  (concept plan + practical exercise + test), and a class attendance of 75%.

The minimum grade in an individual exercise is 8 and its possible to be obtained without exclusion in only one exercise.

Calculation formula of final grade

Individual Work  (studio-conceptplan 20% + practical exercise 30%) = 50% of Final Grade

Test  = 50% of Final Grade

Final grade is the weighted average of the garde obtained in each work affected by the presential (in class) evaluation.
