Objectives

To understand the conceptual and technical magnitude of ancient and medieval architectonic expressions in their specific territorial and urban, formal and constructive dimensions.
To contribute to the development of an inquisitive introductory methodology to the study of the History of Architecture which may become a matrix to address the historic context of architectonic units, regardless of the time and space to which they belong, in terms of location, function, form, technique, image, symbol and meaning.

Learning outcomes and competences

Identify and differentiate the foundations of ancient and medieval architectural production, considered the functional, formal, constructive and symbolic.

Recognize the historical context as an essential basis for the study of architectural and urban units as wholes physical and cultural.

Acquire an interrogative structure that guides the student to study the history of architecture as a specific approach to understanding the architectural cultural identity, whatever the time and place.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lectures of the contents of the program.
Theoretical and practical preparation of monographic studies of analysis and interpretation of individual cases of architecture and city related to the content of the program. Each study will be developed in groups 4-5 students and will last the school year, with three time points (two interim and one final). In these studies it promotes the ability to search and graphical literature, as well as discussion and oral and written expression and attitudes of questioning and learning. In practical classes the work will be monitored on a schedule of attendance with fortnightly periodicity allowing the performance of tasks involving the coordination of groups at the practical class.

Teste 40,00
Trabalho escrito 50,00
Total: 100,00

Amount of time allocated to each course unit

designation Time (hours)

Eligibility for exams

The student attends at least 75% of the attendance in the theoretical-practical classes and with a grade of 9.5 values, considering the weighted evaluation of the theoretical component, the practical component and the attendance participation.

Calculation formula of final grade

It is a prerequisite of the course attendance of at least 75% of attendance at practical classes. Assessment is continuous and integrates the theoretical component with two testes and the practical component with a group work. The final score is the mean of the marks obtained between the theoretical component (40%) and practical component (50% group work +10% quality of individual participation. The negative rating in the practical component implies reprobation.

The July resource consists of a test on the whole matter and is provided for students who obtain an average negative tests, provided they have obtained positive in the practical component of the course.
