Objectives
To promote the knowledge of the processes of social regulation that are characteristic of contemporary societies and their contradictions; To promote the knowledge of the main processes of intersection between space and society and their dynamics of reproduction and social transformation; To document the processes of structuration of different modalities of constitution of public, semi-public and private spaces and the pertinence of social and symbolic divisions in their genesis; To promote detailed sociological knowledge on the genesis of the mentioned socio-spatial processes in Portugal and to identify meaningful comparative patterns of reference.

1. Physical space, social space and institutional dynamics. Theoretical and methodological options. 2. Regulations, social deregulation and space in contemporary societies. History and recent trends. 3. Socially appropriated physical spaces, social classes and class cultures. 3.1. The structuration of space in the bourgeoisie. 3.2. The structuration of space in the petty-bourgeoisie. 3.3. The structuration of space in peasant groups. 3.4. The structuration of space in the working class. 3.5. Socially appropriated physical space and “precariate”.
