Abstract (EN): Iron products have been used in the treatment of As in the groundwater, especially ZVI, nZVI and furnace slags. The potentialities of other iron based sorbents, such as oxides and hydroxides, commercially known as ARM 300 and GEH 102, have not been thoroughly examined. We analyzed the behavior of these materials using laboratory studies at batch scale and in columns and their performance is compared with nZVI. A similar loading capacity was found for both sorbents: 20,6 g As/kg for GEH 102 and 20,8 for ARM 300. The spatial distribution of As in the sorbent was analyzed using an electron microprobe that produced backscattered electron images and elemental mapping, evidencing that the deposition of As occurs on exposed surfaces and coincides with a net depletion in oxygen
