Abstract (EN):
Fire protection engineering in buildings is consensually regarded as a branch of critical importance. In this context, the evacuation of occupants has a key role in preserving their life or physical integrity.
This study aims to assess the issue of evacuation of buildings in an exigencial perspective, besides the prescriptive approach advocated by the Portuguese legislation.
In addition to the perception of the evacuation process, the aim is to apply the two possible approaches, first to verify compliance with regulatory conditions for the evacuation of a building, particularly using the criterion of units passing, and then to determinate the maximum time for evacuation of the building using the numerical model Simulex.
With this analysis we wanted to contribute to a better understanding of the phenomenon of evacuation of buildings and to expose any limitations and / or advantages of each of those approaches. The objective is also to contribute to the dissemination of accessible numerical methods in a pro-active perspective of changing architectural designs still in the study, especially for buildings less conventional.
