Abstract (EN):
The dramatic event of birth is normally accompanied by closure of the ductus arteriosus. Failure to accomplish this important transition may significantly compromise the heart and circulation of the newborn infant, particularly in the premature. The mechanisms for ductal closure and how they can be facilitated or inhibited, has long been the subject of intense investigation. The aim of this article is to review the actual knowledge about patent ductus arteriosus in the premature newborn, specially the new therapeutic perspectives.
