Resumo (PT): Este artigo oferece um comentário a The Hobbit (1937) de J. R. R. Tolkien por via de um contraste entre dois paradigmas utópicos: o romance de demanda e a cidade ideal. A análise sublinha o significado do primeiro enquanto incentivo à consciencialização crítica relativa ao problema do bem e do mal, de um modo que sugere a possibilidade do comprometimento de qualquer indivíduo com uma acção frutuosa.

Abstract (EN): This article offers a commentary on J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit (1937) by way of a contrast between two utopian paradigms: the quest romance and the ideal city. The analysis emphasizes the significance of the former as an inducement to critical awareness concerning the problem of good and evil, in a manner which suggests the possibility of every individual’s commitment to fruitful action.
