Resumo (PT): The following dissertation aims to create an operative study of the history of architecture regarding the hospitals of the XV century in Northern Italy, particularly of our chosen case study, the Ospedale della Misericordia di Parma. The objective of this study is to understand the appearance and development of the typology applied on this specifc case, tracing its roots and the way it was conceived, allowing the application of this knowledge in the restitution of the various project phases of the Ospedale della Misericordia. The comprehension of the history associated with these hospitals, as well as the thinking process of the architects that wrote about them, will allow an analysis of the contemporary role of these buildings through the study of the rehabilitation projects built to adapt them to the XXI century reality, returning after to our case study, creating a critical analysis of the rehabilitation project presented in December 2015.

Abstract (EN): O presente trabalho procura realizar um estudo operativo da história da arquitectura relativa aos hospitais do século XV no Norte de Itália, em particular do caso de estudo escolhido, o Ospedale della Misericordia di Parma. Pretende-se compreender o aparecimento e desenvolvimento da tipologia praticada no caso em questão, traçando assim as suas origens e a forma como foi concebido, permitindo a posterior aplicação deste conhecimento na reconstituição das várias fases de projecto do Ospedale della Misericordia. A compreensão da história associada a estes hospitais, bem como do pensamento dos arquitectos que versaram sobre estes temas, permitirá partir para uma análise do papel contemporâneo destes edifícios, estudando os projectos de reabilitação de que foram alvos para se adaptarem à realidade do século XXI, regressando de seguida ao nosso caso prático, criando uma refexão crítica relativa ao projecto de reabilitação apresentado em Dezembro de 2015.
