Resumo (PT): Cenário privilegiado, a Região Demarcada do Douro (RDD) ostenta um quadro paisagístico soberbo, para além de um património excecional que justificou a sua classificação pela UNESCO como ¿Património da Humanidade¿. Não obstante, os obstáculos ao seu desenvolvimento acumulam-se, nomeadamente os de âmbito demográfico, quadro muito problemático. Neste contexto, é imperativo questionar sobre o perfil sócio-cultural dos seus residentes, particularmente do produtor agrícola, dada a sua ascendência no tecido económico regional. Efetivamente, quando se confronta o cenário existente em 1989 com o de 2009 (Rec. Agrícola, INE), apesar de ser indisfarçável uma melhoria do seu nível de literacia e da sua formação técnica é também inegável o declínio populacional e um nítido envelhecimento, para além de sobressair ainda um nível formativo elementar em termos de literacia e de conhecimentos técnicos inovadores. Com uma implantação territorial diferenciada que privilegia as sedes concelhias, particularmente aquelas onde se instalaram centros universitários ou politécnicos, se bem que domine uma população com o ensino básico, este cenário ainda se agrava quando se ultrapassam os limites dos espaços vitícolas. Constituindo a literacia uma das componentes básicas para a dinamização regional, aspeto indutor do empreendedorismo, da capacidade de atrair investimentos e, com isso, de fixar população jovem, com formação, é necessário, pois, conjugar a ação de todos os agentes interventores no ordenamento territorial para a melhoria deste indicador, mas num contexto que privilegie os residentes, os efetivos preservadores do património regional.

Abstract (EN): Privileged setting, the Douro Demarcated Region (DDR) boasts a superb landscaped framework, in addition to an exceptional heritage that justified its classification by UNESCO as "World Heritage". Nevertheless, the obstacles to its development accumulate, namely the demographic context, very problematic. In this context, it is imperative question on the socio-cultural profile of its residents, particularly the agricultural producer, given its ascendancy in regional economies. Indeed, despite being undisguised an improvement in their level of literacy and technical background when it confronts the existing scenario in 1989 with 2009 (Rec. Agricultural, INE), it is undeniable the population decline and a sharp aging beyond still stand out an elementary training level in terms of literacy and innovative expertise. With a differentiated territorial deployment that favors the municipal offices, particularly those where they settled University or Polytechnic centers, although dominate a population with basic education, this scenario is still worse when we exceed the limits of the wine-growing areas. Constituting literacy one of the basic components for regional promotion, inducing entrepreneurship aspect, the ability to attract investment and, therefore, to set young people with training, it is therefore necessary to combine the action of all stakeholders territorial agents, but in a context that favors residents, actual upholders of regional heritage.
