Alexandre A. Costa holds a degree in Civil Engineering from FEUP, a master's degree in Seismic Engineering from ROSESchool (Italy), a PhD in Civil Engineering from FEUP, and additional training in Disaster Risk Reduction for Cultural Heritage (Ritsumeikan University, Japan / ICCROM).

Since 2005, he has worked in the field of rehabilitation of existing constructions, being a founding partner of NCREP – Consultoria em Reabilitação do Edificado e Património, Lda. He is an Adjunct Professor at ISEP since 2010, an Assistant Professor at FAUP since 2024, an integrated member of the CONSTRUCT research group at FEUP, a Senior Member and Structural Specialist at the Portuguese Engineers Association, and an Expert Member of ISCARSAH/ICOMOS (International Scientific Committee for the Analysis and Restoration of Architectural Heritage Structures).

He conducts research and projects in the field of existing structures, including several awarded rehabilitation interventions.
