Objectives

Acquire a set of basic technical knowledge related to urban infrastructure necessary for the realization of an urban intervention. Perception of urban infrastructure systems, including storm drainage, water supply, collection and treatment of sewage (operating and design principles).

Identify, assess and characterize the technical aspects that influence the layout and implementation of urban infrastructure (without reaching the detail of the project execution).

Learning outcomes and competences

Develop a first approach to the design and dimensioning of streets and city squares, perceiving topographical difficulties and provided direct contact with cartography (stroke, transverse and longitudinal profile).

Working method

Presencial

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)

Urbanism knowledge

Program

1. Overview of urban infrastructure (general concepts). Fundamentals of urban systems and the quality of the urban environment.

2. Road network:

a) Physical and functional hierarchy of the urban road network. Features and technical constraints that result.

b) Elements conditions and stroke characteristics of plant, longitudinal and cross-section profile.

c) Brief approach to the problems of urban intersections.

d) Awareness for integration into the streets drawing of various elements (sewers and buildings)

3. Public space: Elements constituents and functions. Sizing streets, parking, footpaths and cycle paths.

4. Domestic wastewater: Principles and technical constraints stroke and deployment (operating and scaling).

5. Water supply in urban areas. Concept and shooting features, adduction, distribution, booking and network. Needs and forms of supply. (Operating and scaling).

6. Storm drainage in urban areas. Watersheds and design principles. (Operating and scaling).

7. Others urban infrastructures

8. Relationship between service levels and infrastructure installed in the existing occupational load or potential.

Calculation formula of final grade

Development of two application studies (labor). of the knowledge acquired in the academic period.

The final classification (CF – 0 to 20) is the value rounded to the units given by:

CF = 0.5 * M1 + 0.5 * M2

where M1 and M2 is the classification obtained in the evaluation of application studies (work), held in the academic period.
