Abstract (EN): A higher order shear deformation theory is used for modeling orthotropic shells, with a meshless method based on global multiquadric radial basis functions. An optimization technique is presented for a quasi-independent choice of the shape parameter in the multiquadric function. The results obtained are compared with an analytical solution and show excellent accuracy.
