Resumo (PT): O estudo da estética alemã enquanto Philosophie der Kunst – especificamente, a estética romântica e idealista – exige uma análise cuidada da receção de Shakespeare desenvolvida por autores como Lessing, Herder, Goethe, A. W. Schlegel, F. Schlegel e Hegel. O nosso artigo constitui uma tentativa de determinação da relevância estética da exaltada e apaixonada receção germânica de Shakespeare e das suas implicações no âmbito do processo de definição da Estética enquanto Philosophie der Kunst. A elucidação da perspetivação alemã relativa a Shakespeare enquanto eminente objeto da estética – enquanto eminente objeto da filosofia – constituiu o principal propósito do nosso ensaio.

Abstract (EN): The study of German aesthetics as Philosophie der Kunst – specifically the romantic and idealistic aesthetics – requires a thorough analysis of the reception of Shakespeare developed by authors such as Lessing, Herder, Goethe, A. W. Schlegel, F. Schlegel and Hegel. Our paper is an attempt to set out the aesthetic relevance of the exalting and passionate German reception of Shakespeare and its implications within the process of defining Aesthetics as Philosophie der Kunst. The elucidation of the German perspective on Shakespeare as a pre-eminent aesthetic object – a preeminent philosophical object – is the chief purpose of our essay.
