Abstract (EN): Persistent Application Systems (PAS) are potentially very large application systems which use information technology: computers, software and databases. These PAS are most of the time vital for the organisation that depends crucially on them to survive. Being so tied to organisations these long-lived systems have to adapt to organisational changes and evolve without any interruption in service. This is the well known and pressing problem of maintenance which is absorbing most of the effort in the software industry. An architecture targetted at improving the development and maintenance of PAS is outlined.
