FAUP | 2 Bolsas de Investigação | Siza Barroco

The Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) hereby opens this Call for Applications for two research grants for the Project "Siza Barroco" (SIZA/CPT/0021/2019), financed by Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and developed at FAUP, under the following conditions:

The main assignments to be developed under the grants are expected to start in the first quarter of 2022 and will include, among others:
a) Documentary and artistic architectural photography;

b) Preparation and organization of iconographic database;

c) Construction of Inventories, Atlas and Maps;

d) Design, conception and assembly of research devices;

e) Visiting architectural works and study and reconnaissance trips;

f) Support in the organization of events and dissemination of research;

g) Support in the preparation of research publications and exhibition devices.
Grants shall have 6 months of duration, on an exclusive basis, with the possibility of renewal.

The monthly maintenance allowance is 1.104,64¤, according to FCT in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). Payment will be made by FAUP by bank transference. In addition, the grant holders will be covered by personal accident insurance.

The selection board is composed by:

President: Professor José Miguel Neto Viana Brás Rodrigues, Associate Professor at FAUP;
Effective Member: Andreia Joana Geraldo da Silva Couceiro, Junior Researcher at esad-idea;
Effective Member: PhD Sílvia Cristina Teixeira Ramos, Invited Assistant Professor at FAUP;
Substitute Member: Professor Luís Filipe Dordio Martinho de Almeida Urbano, Assistant Professor at FAUP.

Selection will be made by curricular evaluation (60%). The selection process may be complemented by a professional interview (40%), if the Jury consider it necessary, for the ten (10) best ranked candidates in the curricular evaluation, as long as they have achieved a minimum score of 60 points. In case there is no interview, the final classification will be equal to the classification obtained in the curricular evaluation.

The Curricular Evaluation (from 0 to 100 points) will take into consideration the following evaluation factors and weighting criteria:
a) Enrolment in the 1st or 2nd year of the Doctoral Programme in Architecture of FAUP (5 points);

b) Final classification of the Master's course (from 0 to 10 points) *;

c) Final classification in the History of Modern Architecture course unit (from 0 to 10 points);

d) Competencies in computer-aided design, graphic and image editing, data processing and word processing software, among others (0 to 20 points);

e) Own and/or collaborative project practice (0 to 15 points);

f) Motivation letter in the form of a written essay (maximum 2000 characters) on the interest in the research project around Siza's architecture (0 to 20 points);

g) Potential relationship of the Master's Dissertation carried out by the candidate with the research area of the project (from 0 to 20 points).
*Nevertheless the indication given in item 2 of this Call for applications in relation to academic qualifications conferred by a foreign higher education institution, candidates who do not present the academic degrees and respective final classifications, here under evaluation, properly recognized in Portugal by the application deadline, will be scored with a minimum classification of 5 points (regarding the scale from 0 to 10 points considered in item b) of item 9 of the present call for applications).

The evaluation factors of the selection interview, if it is to be realized, will be:
a) Disciplinary depth of the oral discourse (from 0 to 40 points);

b) Conceptual accuracy in the application of vocabulary in Architecture area (from 0 to 20 points);

c) Motivation, availability and knowledge of English (from 0 to 40 points).
In the event that the selected scholarship holder withdraws, the final ranking list of candidates in this competition may be used until February 2022. If none of the candidates demonstrates that they have the profile indicated to carry out the work plan, the jury reserves the right not to award the scholarship to the competition.
