His teaching activity has also been extended to other Public Institutions of Higher Education, namely, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, the School of Engineering of the University of Minho and the School of Science and Technology of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, through specific collaborations, mainly in the context of postgraduate courses.
At international universities, he has lectured at the Politecnico di Torino (Italy) and the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (Brazil).

The research activity initially focused on computational mechanics and, more specifically, the study and development of numerical models for the nonlinear analysis of concrete structures.
