Objectives
- To enable the understanding of high-level Football in line with its specific problems, promoting in students the curiosity and the ability to find out complementary knowledge from various sources.
- To promote in students the theoretical knowledge about soccer training methodology on different levels of performance. In this context, lead the students to develop competences on programming, planning, conducting and evaluating the training process and the management of the competitions of football.
- To develop the understanding of the most recent models of reflection and intervention in the training process and competition, in youth and high-level football contexts. In this sense, will be emphasized the specific constraints of the training process contexts, as well as the conceptions that become susceptible to induce effective professional practices in the exercise of sports coaching activity.
Learning outcomes and competences
Enable students to reflect and solve problems related to the preparation of football players and teams, and to intervene in football competions.

Program
The programme and the fundaments of the curricular unity (CU) Methodology of Sport I - Football are guided by two main aspects:
- didactical, which arises from the specific characteristics and constraints of the Football game, namely its content, guiding principles and respective rules of action;
- methodological, more related to the understanding of the methods of planning, programming and organization of the training process, as well as the training and competition management.

Eligibility for exams
a) To attend actively 75% of the formal sessions.
b) To perform with success the individual and the grupal proposed tasks.
Calculation formula of final grade
The students are evaluated continuously, with no final exam, in three main aspects: positive practical information (PPI), knowledge and competences in the proposed tasks.
The PPI is a prerequisite for students to be evaluated in the regime of continuous evaluation, and implies the fulfillment of two conditions:
a) To attend actively 75% of the formal sessions;
b) To perform with success the individual and the grupal proposed tasks, that include:
- planning tasks (e.g. cycles and training sessions)
- performing and presenting observational reports of Football matches
- Summary analysis of thematic units included in the program.
The knowledge assessment (KA) will be performed through a written test to be held at the end of the semester, aiming to
evaluate the ability of students to organize and relate the knowledge and skills acquired during the semester.
The final classification (FC), to be allocated on a scale of 0 to 20 values, is the weighted arithmetic average found from the formula: FC = 0,3xPPI + 0,7xKA
To be successful on this Curricular Unity, the students shall obtain a classification equal to or greater than 9.5 values, in both the overall classification and in each of the partial marks (PPI and KA).
