Objectives
">Learn about the operation of the Integrated Medical Emergency System (SIEM) and the Urgent Patient Guidance Centers (CODU) in Portugal;
">To know the basic techniques of First Aid (PS) and how to activate the means of SIEM;
">Theoretical description and practical familiarization of the Basic Life Support (SBV) maneuvers and the importance of the External Automatic Defibrillator (DAE);
">Theoretical description and practical familiarization of the Heimlich maneuver in the obstruction of the airway by foreign body;
">Identify the basic rules of rescue and aquatic lifeguard in a deep pool;
">Acquire skills in the observation / interpretation of the type of accident and victim and how to guarantee an adequate, pre-hospital intervention;
Know the precautions to take both in sports and in any other indoor or outdoor activity / nature of leisure and / or recreation, as well as their first aid when necessary (Hemorrhages, Wounds and burns).Learning outcomes and competences
Master the precautions to be taken regarding the type of practice (indoor or outdoor activity / nature) and material to be used;
To recognize the most common injuries in the practice of exercise and sport, whether of competition or leisure;
Show skills in the observation / interpretation of the type of accident and victim and how to guarantee an adequate, pre-hospital intervention;
Apply the basic techniques of First Aid (PS) and how to activate the means of distress and emergency;
To theoretically dominate the Basic Life Support (SBV) maneuver, "survival chain" concept and importance of the External Automatic Defibrillator (AED).Working method

">3. Fundamental Principles of First Aid
">3.1 Know the operation of SIEM and the means available in an emergency or catastrophe situation and how to trigger them (contact 112) correctly.
">3.2 Fundamental principles of first aid: attitude and first care of those who will help, that is, basic principles of action in approaching the victim during the time that the request and the arrival of the means of assistance.
">3.3 Basic Life Support - Adult: survival chain (equal importance of the four links)
">3.3.1 Evaluation of breathing and circulation signals (VOSP)
">3.3.2 Identify the present situation of the injured / victim (conscious / non-conscious, breathing / not breathing)
">3.3.3 Lateral Security Position (PLS): objective and how to execute it
">3.3.4 Survival - SBV algorithm), use of DAE

Eligibility for exams
All students are required to attend 75% of classes given.
Student-workers and high-competition status: students with any of the mentioned statutes who can not ensure their presence in a minimum of 75% of the classes given must contact the teaching staff of the course unit within a maximum of 15 days, From the date of the first class, in order to prepare an alternative plan of training and evaluation according to the circumstances of each one.Calculation formula of final grade
