Justification:
The subject introduces the fundamental principles of the different track and field disciplines. The scientific aspects, pedagogical and methodological disciplines of jumping, running and throwing are taught in an integrated way. These contents will equip the future professional with skills and knowledge to act independently of the sport.
Objectives
Provide students with the specific experiences and basic knowledge of track and field –starting blocks, sprint, relays and throwing;
- Present the regulations of the sprint, relays and throwing;
- Acquire basic skills for teaching the basic aspects of Athletics, in terms of sprint, relays and throwing.
Know and perform the basic movements of running technique;
Know and perform the basic movements of shot put, discus, hammer and javelin, technique;
Know and perform the basic movements of the relay;
Know and apply the rules of sprint, relay, and throwing;
Acquire critical skills in observation of the technique;
Acquire basic concepts about the training methodology of sprint, relays and throwing.
VELOCITY AND RELAY
- Importance of running technique and running technique exercises and their applicability;
- Phases and sub-phases of the sprint running;
- Regulation of sprint running;
- Transmission techniques in relay;
- Regulation of relay running;
- Examples of a didactic and pedagogical approach with children and youth in sprint and relay running.
THROWING
- Javelin: Technic and rules;
- Shot Put: technic and rules;
- Discus: technic and rules;
- Hammer: technical and rules;
NOTE: The teaching of all the disciplines referred above will address pedagogical-didactic and methodological aspects pointed out different components implied in performance.

The final classification is carried out through continuous evaluation of both disciplines.
CF = CAV + CAL+EV
CAV - speed assessment, consists in two quantitative tests (60 meters and 200 meters) and three qualitative tests (Starting blocks, running technique and baton transmission).
CAV = 0.25 x CAT + 0.75 x (0,25 x AP1 + 0,25 x AP2 + 0,15 x AP3 + 0,15 x AP4 + 0,20 x AP5)
CAT - theoretical evaluation of the classification;
AP1 - 60m test
AP2 – 200m test
AP3 - running technique evaluation
AP4 - starting technical evaluation
AP5 - baton transmission evaluation
CAL – Throwing evaluation, is the evaluation of the javelin (ALDa), shot put (ALP), discus (Aldi) and hammer (ALM).
CAL = 0,25 x CAT + 0,75 x ((ALDa + ALP + ALDi + ALM)/4)
EV – Bonus due to participation in “Culminante Event” (0,5 values).
Each week, students who attend the course under a special status shall complete and deliver to the teacher theoretical works of pedagogical-didactic nature of all program content, as they are covered in class.
