Objectives
- To identify the pedagogical view on sport as a cultural and social phenomenon in the different contexts in which sports practice takes place.
- To interpret the humanistic principles and values of sport with a view to its renewal and replacement in discourses and practice.
Learning outcomes and competences
The syllabus (curricular contents) of this Curricular Unit (UC) focus on the structuring elements of the Formação and Education concepts and on the characteristics of the sport activity and respective pedagogical potentialities of Sport. The principles and humanistic values of Sport are highlighted, revisiting the basic concepts and situating them in the current national and international social conjuncture. Moreover, they also seek to emphasize the way in which they can and should intervene in this field, according to a rationale and practice based on these principles and values. To that extent, its consistency with the objectives formulated for this CU is total.

Different teaching methods, according to the nature of contents and tasks: expository method; seminar; debate; round table.
Pedagogical and didactic means are also selected according to their appropriateness to the educational situation: use of information and communication technologies as well as traditional means such printed books and journals.

Eligibility for exams
Presence in 75% of classes. Written essay. Oral presentation of topics in the course of classes.
Calculation formula of final grade
From the topics discussed, student writes an essay [50% of the final classification].
Oral presentation, of one or two subjects (depending on the number of students in each schoolyear), followed by discussion among all the students. Depending on the number of students, the presentation may be individual or in a group of two. [50% included in class participation]
