Objectives
- Identify the plural reality of sport and the relationship with tourism.
- Locate the emergence of sport tourism in conteporary societies.
- Understand and master the concepts inherent to sport tourism.
- Identify and characterize current trends of tourism in general and sport tourism in particular.
Learning outcomes and competences
When finishing the module students should be able to:
- master basic concepts of sports and sport tourism;
- show abillity to distinguish and understand trends of the sports and sport tourism phenomena, as well their intregation within the social and cultural context;
- understand and describe the tourism competitiveness indicators and apply them to the sport.

I. Presentation of the main operating guidelines. Syllabus and evaluation. Conceptual and normative aspects of tourism in Portugal.
II. Conceptual Framework. What is the sports/tourism? The sport as a service/product. Tourist potential of sports activities.
III. Relationship between sports events and sports tourism. Regional Tourism Authority of Porto and North of Portugal.
IV. Sport and tourism: a vision focused on the sporting spectacle and mega events. Adventure sports and active tourism.
V. Tourist competitiveness indicators. Resources. Infrastructure. Accessibility.

Eligibility for exams
Students are required to attend 75 % of classes and a record is kept of attendance, with exceptions according to UP regulations.
Their grades in each of the evaluation components is at least 9,5 of the final grade.
Calculation formula of final grade
Practical works to be developed in class. Attendance and interaction in the activities, 40% of final grade.
Written test, 60% of the final grade.

there will be no special works, tests or exames, just the ones that grant achievement in the curricular unit.

For studants covered by legislation relating to special frequancy will be required to carry out special test to prove knowlege and skills related to the objectives and module contents.
