Objectives

Overall, this course takes as its main objective to introduce students in the field of sports psychology, developing a comprehensive approach to the main topics of this area of knowledge, and always with reference to the contexts in which they conduct their activities.

Program

1. Background, objectives and operating rules and course evaluation.
2. History, evolution and current status of sport psychology
3. Coach and the sports psychologist
4. Motivation for sport
5. Sport dropout
6. Causal attributions in sport contexts
7. Activation, arousal, anxiety and stress in sport
8. Cohesion in sports groups
9. Leadership in sports contexts
10. Psychological skills training
11. Psychological assessment in sport contexts

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lectures.
Seminars.
Group discussions.
Field work.

Evaluation Type

Distributed evaluation with final exam

Eligibility for exams

In order to access the final exam, students will have to meet the following criteria:
i) attend at least 75% of the theoretical and practical lessons taught, and
ii) a minimum grade of 47.5% in the practical component.

Students who fail to ensure the presence on the minimum number of classes described above, should contact the responsible course at the latest within 15 days after the first class teaching, in order to be possible to define an alternative plan for training and evaluation.

Calculation formula of final grade

Theoretical component (50% of the final grade):
i) mini-tests within classes - 40%
ii) final examination - 10%
Practical component (50% of final grade):
i) individual work: 25%
ii) group work - 25%

Both for the theoretical as the practical component of the total score will not be less than 47.5% of the corresponding value.

Examinations or Special Assignments

Students covered by laws relating to special arrangements for attendance may be required to carry out special testing for proof of knowledge and skills related to the objectives and content of the course.

Classification improvement

Students can try to improve their ranking through repetition of the field works (for the practical component) and / or the final exam (in case of theoretical component).
