Abstract (EN):
Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) is a hypomineralization of systemic origin affecting one to four permanent first molars and frequently associated with affected permanent incisors. Its etiology is still unclear and affected children often exhibit behavior problems, fear and anxiety, probably related to the repeated treatment needs, and also the difficulty in anesthetizing these teeth. Due to its potential negative impact on oral health of affected individuals and based on a literature search of scientific articles in English published between 1970 and 2011, the authors proposed to review the available information particularly: characteristics of the pathology, etiological factors, diagnosis and treatment of molar-incisor hypomineralization. © 2012 Sociedade Portuguesa de Estomatologia e Medicina Dentária.
