Lecturer at FADEUP since 1987. Has a PhD in Sports Science from the University of Porto and is an Associate Professor in the Learning and Motor Development disciplinary group. Integrated member of the CIFI2D Research Centre (Centre for Research, Training, Innovation and Intervention in Sport) and is responsible for creating and coordinating the Motor Behaviour Laboratory at FADEUP.
Involved in several funded projects in the field of Motor Behaviour.
At FADEUP is President of the Pedagogical Council, Director of the Sports Science Degree Course and member of the Executive Board. Member of the Scientific Council and responsible for FADEUP's Academic Services by appointment of FADEUP's Executive Board. Coordinator for Student Mobility at FADEUP and member of the Coordinating Council for Assessment.
Teaches in the three levels of study: Degree in Sports Sciences; Master's Degree in Physical Activity, Exercise and Health, Master's Degree in Teaching Physical Education in Primary and Secondary Schools and Master's Degree in Sports Coaching - High Performance Coaching and Youth Coaching; and Doctoral Programme in Sports Sciences.
Member of the Transversal Commission for Peer Mentoring at U.Porto's FADEUP and is responsible for setting up the FADEUP Volunteer Programme under the Pedagogical Council. Member of the General Council of Agrupamento de Escolas Pêro Vaz de Caminha, Porto, and Ambassador for Affections at Associação Ajudaris (a national non-profit public utility association of a social and humanitarian nature that fights hunger, poverty and social exclusion on a daily basis).
Involved in lines of research covering populations (children, young people, adults and the elderly) with and without specific needs: Understanding Coordination Development Disorder and the expression of its variability throughout intervention programmes aimed at overcoming coordination difficulties; Understanding lateral preference behaviours, their influence on the expression of motor coordination parameters and their relationship with functional motor asymmetries and injuries; Analysis of motor coordination and bilateral transfer in motor learning.
