Objectives
a) Apply and develop basic knowledge acquired in the scope of Sports Training applied to Handball.
b) Acquire skills needed for acting as a coach in actual training and competition contexts, both in in sport for children and youth.
c) Develop skills of critical reflexion concerning emergent problems in real practice settings.
d) Develop skills for learning autonomously and deliberately using diversified knowledge sources.
Learning outcomes and competences
The discipline of sports Methodology - Handball takes place in a monitoring Scheme, where the main focus is the activity of coach within the context of children and youth.
In this sense, it is intended that students are faced with the problems raised by the professional practice in this field and, consequently, are induced to undertake the tasks required for its resolution, into a comprehensive perspective according to the demands of the sportive system.

Considering skills acquisition related to professional practice as the great purpose of this curricular unit, the focus on the analysis, discussion and reflection of the problems raised by the practice are the main content scrutinized. Thus, the contents are diversified and impossible to enumerate because they just arise from the problems emerged in practice and are always addressed in a prospective application.

Considering the objectives mentioned, which are embodied in skills for professional coaching function within the context of children and youth, the methodologies applied are much less expository and more interactive.
The intention to prepare students for future coaching profession also requires the use of training strategies that aim an increasing autonomy, where the use of questioning is important mainly to the confrontation of knowledge in strict sense (define, describe, distinguish, recognize and associate concepts), to its application (to exemplify, operate, prescribe), until the problems resolution (criticize, decide, formulate).

Access to practical evaluation requires 75% of presences to classes.
Calculation formula of final grade
Final Classification
- (i) Presentation and discussion of topics during classes (40%) and (ii) a written work (50%), reflecting critically on selected themes of high performance sports training.
- Classroom participation (10%).
