Obs.: Desporto e Religião

Objectives

1. To explore axiological elements of sport's reality inherited by sacred and religious contexts;
2. To deeply understand tensions and conflicts, as well affinities and proximities, between homo religiosus and homo sportivus
3. To consider sport from a proposed common ethics between both: the ethics of waiting, of wandering, of pilgrimage
4. To find in both sport and religion possibile paths of dialogue and peace, through a universal language of the sacred and the profane

Learning outcomes and competences

1. Be able to identify, suspect and question the origins and the meanings of important aspects of sport's axiology that invoque religious universe

2. Be able to research, collect and dialogue with recent and available academic literature about sport and religion

3. Acquire knowledge about the relationship between sport and religion, and competences to think, analyse and discuss them both in educational, academic and socio-cultural contexts

Exposition of the main topics by the professor, in a dialogued way, by interacting with students and promoting their participation; Study and discussion of texts regarding the course topics; Participation of invited speakers who, by their experience, can contribute to a deep intersubjective thinking with students about the topics of the course.

Eligibility for exams

The evaluation of the level of knowledge and skills of the students is conducted in accordance with existing legal provisions at the University of Porto and the Assessment Standards issued by the Pedagogical Faculty of Sport.
To be approved in Sport and Religion students must have positive frequency in classes (75% attendance) and a minimum grade of 9.5 in the proposed works.

Calculation formula of final grade

100% of the score is regarded to the score of the proposed works at classes. The consideration of this score is only valid when the student attended to 75% of classes at least.
