Objectives

- Know the Team Handball characteristics in youth training and in high level performance;

- To perceive and contextualize the knowledge of Theory and Methodology of Sports in Team Handball;

- Identify the process of long-term development process of the Handball player.

- To acquire knowledge in the planning, implementation, execution and assessment of the coaching and the competition.

Learning outcomes and competences

Integrate and contextualize knowledges on Theory and Methodology of Training into the practice of Team Handball
Understanding the organization of Team Handball, both nationally and internationally, with emphasis on Sport for All and Sport for Performance.
Widen the knowledge of Team Handball in the perspectives of Sport for All and Sport for Performance.
Identify the process of Long-Term Development for Team Handball athletes
Acquire knowledge concerning planning, implementing, conducting and evaluating training and competition.
Consider teaching and coaching models for training and competition.

Teaching methods and learning activities

In the methodology adopted for the classes, in addition to the lecture method, complemented with the use of audio-visual media, sessions will also be developed as seminar, were it’s privileged the critical analysis and discussion of ideas.

In the practical lessons, students will be familiarized with the operationalization of means and methods of coaching in team handball.

Throughout the lessons students are instructed to the read the theoretical documentation of every theme of the programme. They are advised to carefully consult academic dissertations, as well as research articles whose contents support the increase of their knowledge about coaching and competition in Team Handball.

Eligibility for exams

Attendance to at least 75% of classes.

Calculation formula of final grade

The approval for the course results in a positive global classification not less than 9.5 points.

Assessment is divided in a practical module (70%) and a theoretical module (30%).

- The evaluation of the theoretical module will be done by carrying out written tests during the semester.

- Evaluation of the practical module:

i) Preparation and presentation of an individual dossier containing: Observation reports of training sessions and games; Seminar reports; Reports of the developed activities; reports of reading;

ii) Individual assignments, which consist in the development and presentation of the tasks, related to different modules of the programme.

In order to obtain a positive evaluation in the practical module, the students can’t obtain a classification under 9.5 points.

Access to the positive evaluation in the practical module requires students to be present in at least 75% of the number of classes lectured

Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)

The Students who are exempted from the attendance conditions, (working students and high-competition athletes) have to do the formal assessment tests (practical and theoretical) in specifc dates and perform a set of works. The contents of the works will be define with the respective teacher at the beginning of the school year.
