Taking into account the increase of compulsory schooling and the new challenges linked to social changes induced by individual lifestyle, it is essential to provide training and improving the content and methods of Education for Health. Therefore, this unit aims to provide the student the theoretical and practical knowledge that allows him to intervene in the school environment and community, promoting choices and healthier lifestyles. Additionally this course aims to highlight the training of various intervention techniques and the development of skills demand and analysis of documents (articles, reports, websites) configured as important sources of information. Further it is an objective to encourage students to become responsible and active in their learning.
Achieving positive classification students must meet the following objectives:
1. To explain health concepts, health promotion, risk and quality of life and to compare the interpretations of the biomedical and ecological models of health.
2. To be able to define physical activity, exercise, physical fitness and its components. Illustrate, compare and apply assessment methods. Explain the physical activity role in health promotion. Identify the determinants of physical activity. Illustrate and discuss the physical activity recommendation for different populations.
3. Analyze the contents and interventions in education and health promotion in schools and communities. Explain and compare different interventions in the school context.
4. Reflecting on the problem of obesity and its health implications.

Lectures:
I.Introduction to Health Education:
- The development and interpretation of current health models health (eg biomedical models and ecological) and the concepts of health and illness and health-related quality of life
- The concept of health promotion: the role played by individuals and institutions
-The concept of Lifestyle, values, beliefs, attitudes, health-related behaviors, the role of physical and social context in health behavior.
II. Physical activity and health promotion
-Physical Activity: Concepts and methods of measurement / assessment of physical activity
-Epidemiology of Physical Activity (mechanisms that underlie the benefits of physical activity in physical and mental health)

III. Contents promotion and health education

The program is divided into lectures and workshops. The lecture session is equivalent to a 1-hour lecture per week. During lectures it will be presented and discussed the fundamental theoretical concepts of the unit. The workshop sessions corresponds to theoretical and practical lessons (60 min) per week. In these sessions there is a deeper conceptual analysis as well as it is carried out outreach activities relating to the matters addressed in the theoretical course. Additional topics are also covered and apply research methods and practical tasks associated with the content of the subject, in the form of small groups or group class, intending to develop a wide range of participatory methodologies.

Continuous assessment (with portfolio) without final examination
For students covered by special legislation or regimens of attendance will be required to carry out special testing allowing proof of knowledge and skills related to the objectives and content of the unit.
